New TimestripPlus 8 Deg C has been independently validated, proving it's accuracy in both temperature and time.

TimestripPlus is the only device that can effectively record a breach in the cold chain and indicate accurately the length of time that the breach occurred.

Simply activate the device at room temperature and attach to your chilled pharmaceutical. Whilst the drug is kept below +8 deg C, the indicator window will not change.

When the drug has been dispensed and left the refrigerated environment, as soon as its temperature rises above 8 deg C, a colour will move along the indicator window showing the length of time that the breach has occurred. This has been proved to be accumulative, even when product has been returned to a chilled environment several times.

The HSE are carrying out an inspection campaign to assess the health and safety management of the prevention of sharps injuries.

Recommendations and best practice are that there should be no recapping of needles, suitable PPE should be worn and needles and sharps are disposed of safely as contaminated waste.

Our double wrapped and sterilised sharps bins have needle and vacutainer removers on the lids for the safe removal, disposal and transportation of sharps waste without the need for hand contact. These are available in sizes 0.6 litre - 5 litre with purple lidded and labelled bins available for cytotoxic identification.

Posters were presented at the APT conference and exhibition 2010 which was held in Chester.

Many congratulations to Sally Kemp and Elizabeth Fidler who were presented with 1st prize for their poster entitled: ‘Standardising Training and Accreditation within a nationally recognised framework using Pre and In process Checking (PIPC) as a model’.

2nd prize was awarded to Theresa Leach for her poster entitled ‘The impact of the implementation of a prescription tracking system on dispensary services improving and communicating prescription processing times’. Theresa is Technician Team and Dispensary Manager at Worthing and Southlands hospital.

3rd prize went to Sean Brock for his poster ‘Improving Patient Safety’. Sean is based at North Tyneside General Hospital.

A common side effect from using biocides to control microbial organisms in Cleanroom environments is the build up of sticky residues on floors and surfaces. Using Stericlean rotational cleaning regime can help you to avoid the build up of these residues.

Wipes and CE marking

A number of our customers are facing confusion regarding the CE marking of the sterile wipes that they are using in aseptic preparation.

If a product is classified as a medical device as specified in the medical devices directive 93/42/EEC, then it must be CE marked.

SteriClean wipes are not classified as a medical device and therefore should not and cannot be CE marked.

With reference to the guide ‘Quality assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services’ fourth edition, P57 chapter 13, 13.2.1, sterile wipes are classified as a component and should be supplied with a documented from of approval, which in this case will be a sterility certificate.

Isovent autoclave filters
At the end of a steam cycle during autoclave sterilisation, air is drawn into the unit and passed over the contents for drying purposes. This air needs to be free from particulates and the Isovent 50mm HEPA filters are an excellent choice for this application.

The first helapet.net study day of the third series ‘Managing the risks in the preparation of aseptic products’, was a resounding success.

27 delegates spent an informative day at Wroxall Abbey enjoying a mix of presentations and workshops on best practice in aseptic environments. Topics covered were real risks and governance of IV’s, assuring the quality of PN, effective inspection and release and a practical workshop on CAPA and root cause analysis.

Our thanks go to guest Speakers, Tim Sizer, Mark Oldcorne, Richard Needle and Paul Tunstell, who all did a fabulous job on making the day a success.

New Bio + I and II added to SteriClean range

Two new sterile rotational biocides are newly available to compliment the SteriClean denatured ethanol and isopropyl alcohol sprays.

SteriClean Bio I and II are good broad spectrum biocides that when used in conjunction with SteriClean alcohol sprays will effectively control microbial contamination commonly found in cleanroom environments and are suitable for use on all hard surfaces both inside and outside isolators and hatches.

SteriClean Bio + are blended with water for injection, filtered to 0.2 micron and filled in a class 10,000 cleanroom. ready mixed and validated for maximum effect, they are supplied individually double bagged and sterilised by gamma irradiation at no less than 25 kGy.

The machines remove the air from each pack during the packaging process ensuring that microbial particulates are extracted, before sealing securely with a validated heat seal.
